Pressure infiltration of molten aluminum for densification of environmental barrier coatings

چکیده

Abstract Environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) effectively protect the ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) from harsh engine environments, especially steam and molten salts. However, open pores inevitably formed during deposition process provide transport channels for oxidants corrosives, lead to premature failure of EBCs. This research work proposed a method pressure infiltration densification which blocked these in coatings. These results showed that it was difficult aluminum infiltrate spontaneously, but with increase external gas internal vacuum simultaneously, obviously moved forward, finally stopped infiltrating at depth specific geometry. Based on wrinkled zigzag pore model, mathematical relationship between critical intrinsic geometry established. The confirmed this relationship, indicating given coating, dense thick film can be obtained by adjusting pressures drive melt infiltration.

High-pressure Injection Injury with Molten Aluminum

INTRODUCTION A previously healthy 65-year-old male presented to the emergency department complaining of a burn to his right forearm. Just prior to arrival the patient was working at a tool and die company casting products with molten aluminum where he inadvertently caused his injury. Physical examination revealed a burn to the right forearm of varying degrees of severity. A non-painful charred ...

Effect of Ultrasonic Vibration on Infiltration of Nickel Porous Preform with Molten Aluminum Alloys

In order to obtain the high-performance composites with high density, the influence of additional ultrasonic vibration on the infiltration of molten aluminum alloy (ASTM A336.0) into nickel porous preform by low-pressure and pressureless casting was investigated. There was no effect of ultrasonic vibration on infiltration distance under pressureless casting because of presence of surface oxide ...

Chemically Vapor Deposited Ysz for Thermal Amd Environmental Barrier Coatings

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) has been used as a thermal/environmental barrier coating for gas turbine engine blades. Current methods of fabrication include air plasma spraying (APS) and electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD). The APS technique results in a coating that loses effectiveness with thermal cycling. The EB-PVD technique deposits a columnar microstructure which accommoda...

Modeling of Chemical Vapor Deposited Zirconia for Thermal Barrier and Environmental Barrier Coatings

Thermal and environmental barrier coatings are important components of current and future energy systems. Such coatings – applied to hot, metallic surfaces in combustors, heat exchanger and turbines – increase the allowable operating temperature and increase the efficiency of the energy system. Because of its low thermal conductivity and high thermal expansion yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) i...

Plasma spray deposition of tri-layer environmental barrier coatings

n air plasma spray process has been used to deposit tri-layer environmental barrier coatings consisting of a silicon bond coat, a mullite interiffusion barrier, and a Yb2SiO5 top coat on SiC substrates. Solidified droplets in as-deposited Yb2SiO5 and mullite layers were discovered to be epleted in silicon. This led to the formation of an Yb2SiO5 + Yb2O3 two-phase top coat and 2:1 mullite (2Al2O...
